Serving chicken wings to cost you more

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Serving Buffalo's signature delicacy at Super Bowl parties this year will cost you more.

Chicken wing prices, per pound, are up around 12 percent across the country. At Franco's on Kenmore Avenue, store owner Franco Krose compares Super Bowl sale of wings to the World Series and hot dogs. And though it is a profitable day for their company, their bottom line is impacted by the rising cost.

"It's double digit increases and we can't expect consumers to pay those kinds of increases. So as a company, we absorb the different costs," Krose said.

At Wegmans, prices at the cooked wing bar are staying fixed through Super Bowl Sunday.

Wegmans Spokesman Theresa Jackson said, "People are always watching their budgets and you can save some money by making them yourself, we do have them ready to eat as well, so it really depends what you're looking for."

Shopper Debroah Brittain said the rising cost of chicken wings is a travesty, "but we're going to eat them anyway. No one's going to stop eating chicken wings, that's for sure. Especially in Buffalo!"

Jackson attributes rising prices to weather and supply and demand.
