Parade marches through Old First Ward

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Bagpipes blasted through Buffalo's Old First Ward Saturday at the 20th annual "Old Neighborhood" St. Patrick's Day Parade.

One fan has been coming to the marching event since it began, watching the crowds grow larger each year.

Sam Kolodziei watched the parade enjoying every second of it. "This is what it is. It went through the neighborhood and all the people would come out of their houses, mostly Irish, and they would celebrate Patty's Day."

Anne McMahon, a mother of nine and a former community leader was honored as the Grand Marshall of the parade. "Nothing better than the Irish-they know how to celebrate," she said.

Floats and classic cars filled the streets with excitement. Harlem Shakers even broke out and jived, giving a parade-stopping performance.

Crowds were given green beads to wear during the event.

Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs was also one of the proud marchers. He said, "This is where the Irish heritage truly came from and being of Irish descent, it's great to be here."

News 4's Chief Meteorologist Don Paul was also spotted waving to his greeters.

Thousands are expected to pack downtown Buffalo Sunday for the area's biggest St. Patrick's Day celebration starting at 2 p.m.
