BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Buffalo Winterfest and Powderkeg Festival won't be held again until January 2014.
Organizers sought to bring the festival to the waterfront, but say with the NHL lockout and uncertainty of the availability of the First Niagara Center, they were forced to hold off on this year's festivities.
Organizer Drew Cerza says the festival will be held at the waterfront in January 2014, at which time canal construction will be completed and available for ice skating. With the lockout over, the First Niagara Center will serve as an indoor venue for family fun as well as entertainment, food and beverages. And the waterfront's green space will host the winter activities festival-goers have come to enjoy in the three years since the festival's inception.
Though the Buffalo Winterfest and Powderkeg Festival won't be held, the Olmstead Park Conservancy is moving forward with Flurrious!, which will be held in Delaware Park on Saturday, January 26 and features several outdoor winter activities.
