BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Some local canines are headed to the nation's capital to sniff out trouble.

Two NFTA officers and their K-9 teams are going to Washing to work a security detail for the Inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Officers Robert Bovee and David Capretto are taking their well-trained dogs, Cora and Gino, to the nation's capital on January 16. They will patrol the Metro Washington train stations through the Inauguration on January 21. They will be under the direction of the U.S. Marshal's Service.

Officer Bove said, "They're trained on explosives. We train two days a week and we evaluate once a year. The federal government comes down and evaluates us and they're trained to sit, they're passive dogs and they're trained to sit when they detect explosives."

Security will extremely tight for the Inauguration. The two NFTA K-9 teams will be part of 12 K-9 teams from across the nation providing extra security when the President takes his Oath of Office.
