BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The University at Buffalo wants to make sure its investment in the medical corridor pays off for its future neighbors.

A special panel met with residents of the Fruit Belt Thursday night to talk about how the university's new medical school can benefit the neighborhood.

Vice President for University Life and Services Dennis Black said, "As the medical campus expands, the UB medical school comes down, offices are built, hospitals are built, let's make sure the neighborhoods surrounding the campus are involved with that. What are the job opportunities? The purchasing opportunities? Let's make sure the neighborhood and campus are combined instead of separate."

UB is in the process of buying the McCarley Gardens Housing property on Michigan Avenue from the St. John Baptist Church.
