BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The University at Buffalo is set to open a new research facility that's meant to encourage collaboration between biomedical researchers and doctors to speed the development of new treatments.

The opening of the Clinical and Translational Research Center is scheduled for Thursday. The 170,000-square-foot facility is on Buffalo's downtown medical campus in a building that's jointly owned by UB and the Kaleida Health hospital system.

UB's physician scientists will be able to do their research on the upper floors of the building and to see patients and work with clinicians downstairs, in Kaleida's Gates Vascular Institute.

UB says the goal is to narrow the gap between discovery and cure.
