BUFFALO, N.Y. (WVB) - The president of the University at Buffalo is responding to an editorial published in the student paper that blasted living conditions in the University Heights neighborhood.

The UB Spectrum article points to a spike in crime and poor living conditions in the neighborhood surrounding the south campus. It also detailed the fear many students feel who live in the University Heights area.

In a written response, President Satish Tripathi said the university is committed to the safety and welfare of all university community members and campus visitors. He said part of the UB 2020 plan includes millions of dollars in safety measures - such as security cameras, emergency phones, improved lighting, and emergency blue light systems.

Tripathi also said UB has partnered with Buffalo Police to increase patrols near the south campus.
