NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - The State Comptroller said Niagara Falls residents are paying for failed development projects because of poor oversight by Niagara Falls officials.
Thomas DiNapoli highlighted two key projects in a 21 page audit released Wednesday. DiNapoli said poor monitoring contributed to the now virtually vacant Rainbow Center Mall and dozens of downtown acres that remain undeveloped.
"Local officials have to be sure they are protecting taxpayer investments, confident that the public will benefit from the projects in question." DiNapoli said developers also need to be held accountable when their projects fail to meet expectations.
