Feds look to investigate Holding Center

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The investigation into suspected abuse at the Erie County Holding Center is picking up speed.

The U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division wants to expedite document recovery and access to the downtown Holding Center. Several inmates have recently committed suicide.

Sheriff Timothy Howard is facing federal and state lawsuits over conditions inside the jails. A Sheriff's sergeant and five deputies are currently on paid leave amid suspected inmate abuse.
