Many ready for Obama but weren't picked

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Just one day later, western New York is still buzzing about President's three-hour tour of western New York, but there are plenty of businesses around the area that are wondering, "Why not us?"

A day after President Obama's visit, his ten chicken wings, five crispy, will keep Duff's on the map for awhile. But there were some businesses and locations that were hoping to see the President and he never made it.

Broadway Market worker Melanie said, "I understand he likes cinnamon apples. So I'm making him a cinnamon apple cake."

Melanie, an employee at one of the stands in the Broadway Market, had a cake ready to go for President Obama in anticipation of his arrival on Thursday. Chuck even cooked up a President's burger.

Chuck Villafranca said, "That comes with Hawaiian relish. It's a half-pound cooked burger. We make them homemade everyday. It comes with fried onions, cheddar cheese and Chuckie's Texas red hot sauce. I wanted to call it the Obama burger, but my wife thought, being in the community, we might offend some people and I didn't think so, but we would love to get his approval to come out here because it is made with Hawaiian relish also."

Gigi's was another spot many thought the President might stop by.

Carol James, Gigi's Manager, said, "We're gonna make him the biggest cheeseburger he can possibly eat. If he comes, he can look forward to having a good time with some people that want to ask him a few questions and just want to see him."

But he never showed up there and he also never made it to the end of the 33 by St. John's Baptist Church where over 200 people stationed themselves hoping to see the President. They only captured a glimpse of his motorcade leaving the airport.

President Obama never promised to show up at any of these places. In many cases, it appears to be just rumor or wishful thinking.
