QUEENSTON, ONTARIO (WIVB) - A new building should give travelers an easier time crossing between the U.S. and Canada.

Canadian government officials showed off a new central plaza building at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge Thursday morning. It's part of a major expansion at the border crossing, including more passenger vehicle lanes and a separate lane for buses.

Tony Geoghegan of the Canada Border Services Agency said, "With such a large volume of trade and travel, the completion of this project will result in significant improvements and enhancements to our operations. We have additional space, additional tools, improved facilities for our personnel to process both commercial and passenger traffic more efficiently and effectively."

The new facility replaces two other buildings which opened in 1962.
