BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Toyota dealers are working around the clock now to fix millions of cars with sticky gas pedals.
Local Toyota dealers are going to be busy over the next few weeks. Many are working around the clock to replace all those accelerator pedals that have been recalled. Dave Simmons 2010 Corolla falls under that recall. It's the first time he's ever purchased a Toyota.
"Well, I took advantage of cash for clunkers, so I needed a vehicle that qualified to get the discount," said Simmons.
He hasn't officially been notified by Toyota, but had his car in last week for regular service and found out his accelerator pedal is one of those recalled. Simmons worked in the auto industry for over two decades.
Simmons isn't concerned about the recall. He explained,
because of all the vehicles that are out there, there's very few that are affected by it."
Northtown is among a few western New York auto dealers staying open 24/7 to take care of all those affected vehicles. They started at midnight on Sunday and should be finished with all affected vehicles in about two weeks.
Craig Schreiber of Northtown Automotive said, "Because I think the customers are just receiving the letters now, in the last day or two, they're staggering it. It's steady, but it's not overwhelming."
The company is taking a hit. The Kelly Blue Blue value of Toyotas has gone down, along with new sales for vehicles. As for Dave Simmons, he still has faith.
Simmons said, "I would [still buy a Toyota]."
Those letters are still going out to Toyota owners. Dealers ask that you wait for that letter to come in before making an appointment with your dealers service department.
