Alleged East Aurora prostitute in court

EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WIVB) - It's not an episode from Desperate Housewives. An East Aurora woman faced a court appearance for prostitution.

Cynthia Betschen and her husband ran from our camera at East Aurora Town Court. She had just pleaded not guilty to the oldest profession, one that authorities say is alive and well in East Aurora.

Investigators say 55-year-old Betchen and 42-year-old Onsa Glosser both advertised on Escorts.com, for both escorts and other types of sexual favors. Both women were recently caught allegedly taking cash from an undercover police officer posing as a client at a local inn.

Tom Eoannou, attorney for Cynthia Betschen, said, "This is a woman that's never had a parking ticket in her entire life."

Eoannou says his client is only charged with prostitution.

"It's an A-misdemeanor count the equivalent of shoplifting. There is not an allegation she is an escort, nor is there an allegation in the accusatory papers, I can tell you this, that she brought any sex toys with her," said Eoannou.

Police say Betschen, who went by the name of "Hot Cindy," and Glosser, also known as "Kimbo," are just a few of the 100 other local escorts on website. The site warns of adult content, but claims that it doesn't promote prostitution.

Eoannou said, "It's a misdemeanor case. It will resolve itself in due course and I think it's quite frankly much ado about nothing because it's East Aurora. If this was in the city of Buffalo, we arraign five of these a day."

Betschen was released. She'll be back here in court next Wednesday along with Onsa Glosser.
