ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) - Katherine Sanchez was a 9th grader at Albion Middle School.
The 15-year-old, who was on the Track and Field team, leaves behind a heartbroken family.
Yazmin Serafin, Katherine's cousin said, "Her smile would brighten your day every single day in school."
Katherine's puzzling disappearance began on the night of January 14th.
She was last seen babysitting at her sister's apartment in the Village of Albion.
Kimberly Cardenas lives there with the suspect, who is also her husband.
Cardenas said, "He is just one psycho man, that I never knew that side."
Cardenas tells News 4 Carlos never showed any signs of being involved in her sister's disappearance.
The family says Police told them he confessed.
"He states that he didn't kill her right away took him days to kill her I guess and rape her," said Aster Martinez, Katherine's aunt.
The family suspected foul play from the beginning, so they contacted Police.
Martinez added, "Her mother Rosa says that she told them about the blood in the basement and they completely ignored her and they were joking among themselves."
Martinez tells us blood wasn't the only clue Katherine's mother found in the suspect's apartment.
"Her jacket was left behind, her cell phone was left behind," added Martinez.
But the family says their pleas for help in finding Katherine were still ignored.
The knock on their door came Friday night.
Police told them Katherine's brother-in-law had been arrested and charged with murder.
News 4 received a press release announcing her disappearance for the first time earlier in the day on Friday.
Martinez says Katherine was killed because she threatened to tell her sister that she had been raped.
Martinez said, "And that triggered something in his mind."
"0ne nasty man that can do something to my sister like that," added Cardenas.
