BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - It appears nothing is sacred when it comes to thieves in Buffalo. Police are warning churchgoers to beware of thieves.
Police are warning people to be careful attending worship services, due to a rash of thefts.
Police say there have been an unusual amount of larcenies from churches recently.
In some cases the victim left the church pew for communion and the theft occurs.
In other cases, an entire purse is stolen or items are removed.
Detectives tell News 4, a lot of times people don't realize they've been targeted until after the fact.
Chief Dennis Richards said, "It is a sad reality that the criminal element will take advantage of an opportunity, even if they are in God's house."
Buffalo Police will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. at Police Headquarters.
