NORTH COLLINS, N.Y. (WIVB) - There are very disturbing and graphic details about January's murder of a mentally challenged woman in North Collins.

An Erie County grand jury has indicted the victim's mother, Eva Cummings, and her son, Luke Wright, for the torture, sexual assault and murder of 23-year-old Laura Cummings.

Investigators said Laura's mother sodomized her with a broomstick, then choked her with her bare hands, while her half-brother burned her with scalding hot water and then raped her.

Family members who live out of town said their calls to adult protective services went unheeded.

"And told them, you need to really investigate this because I know that there is something going on in that house, and they just would not do anything. They said they needed a warrant to go inside the house and do anything," explained Laura's brother, Richard Cummings.

"Chaos. Almost like a living hell. No child should ever have to go through what we went through," exclaimed Laura's sister, Patricia Wright, when asked what the apartment was like.

Both Eva Cummings and her son face up to life in prison if convicted.
