BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A retired Buffalo Fire Lieutenant avoids prison time for setting fire to his leased car.

State Supreme Court Justice Russell Buscaglia sentenced Roberto Ruiz to five years probation.

Ruiz was arrested last July on arson and insurance fraud charges.

The car caught on fire a few months before.

Ruiz admitted setting the fire to avoid charges for damage and excess mileage on the vehicle.
