Holland man sentenced for dumping mail

Transporter admitted to opening and dumping mail

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Gregory Gibson, 28, was sentenced on Thursday to a prison term of 4 months and 4 months of home confinement after being convicted of destroying first class mail.

Gibson who lives in Holland, New York, was employed bya company to trandport mail from Hollant to collection points throughout Western New York. He admitted opening first class mail and then dumping the mail at a roadside location in Holland.

The mail was discovered by a passerby in early October of last year.

U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder, Jr. denied the defendant's request for a halfway house placement due to the serious nature of the crime. Gibson was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.
