BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Members of the jury who convicted Muzzammil Hassan returned to court to witness the day of reckoning for the murderer.

None of the jurors in the Hassan trial were required to return for his sentencing, but they chose to come back for one reason.

Linda Janiga said, "For Aasiya, for Aasiya."

Kelly Maccagnano said, "We sat here every day and listened to testimony and you know tried to make light of it and we wanted to see it through to fruition."

"To see such brutality, a woman, what she went through, I think will be with all of us forever," said Janiga.

They sat in the courtroom day in and day out for two weeks. At first, they were ready to give Hassan's defense a chance, despite the horrific allegations against him.

Maccagnano said, "I think in the beginning everybody, well I know that I was open, we were open waiting to hear something and he never he could not prove it."

But Maccagnano says she and others soon realized that all Hassan wanted to do was bash his dead wife. When it was time to deliberate his fate, jurors found him guilty in less than one hour.

"He got what he deserved, he got what he deserved. Not enough time, but," said Janiga and Maccagnano.

And they were also satisfied when the judge lashed out at Hassan for his antics.

Maccagnano said, "To hear the judge finally be able to say "no more," that was really great."

Janiga and Maccagnano say they became very close despite their different backgrounds. And even though the trial is over, they will carry the emotional toll of what they had to see and hear for quite some time.
