GENESEO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 27-year-old man led police on a high-speed chase through three western New York towns that ended when a Marine Corps recruit helped tackle the suspect when he tried to flee on foot.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office tells Rochester media outlets that Thomas Sheflin of Scottsburg failed to pull over for a police officer who spotted him speeding the village of Geneseo around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities say the chase continued through two neighboring towns with Sheflin hitting speeds topping 100 mph. When Sheflin got stopped at a red light back in Geneseo, he fled on foot but was caught by deputies and Dylan Knights of Dansville, who enters the Marine Corps in November.
Sheflin was hospitalized for a mental evaluation. He hasn't been charged.
