Niagara Falls Police Department detectives are looking for help in solving a robbery, which occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Walgreen’s Pharmacy parking lot, 1202 Pine Avenue.

But in a strange turn of events, with help of some local good Samaritans, the thief was apprehended shortly after the crime, while the elderly victim drove off in her car and did not report the crime to the police.

Officers responded to the robbery in progress at 1:55pm. Officers were advised that a suspect was being pursued by three men. The suspect was located on the south side of the Trott Access Center, in the custody of the three men.

According to witnesses, an elderly woman was standing at the trunk of her vehicle in Walgreen’s parking lot when she was approached by the suspect, who threw her to the ground and her glasses were broken. It is believed her purse and cell phone may have been stolen by the suspect.

The three men, who were working on a car in the alley at the rear of the store, heard the commotion and gave chase through the cemetery toward the Trott building, where he was caught by the men.

The suspect suffered undetermined facial injuries when he struggled with the men during the apprehension, and was treated at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and released.

Detectives are asking the victim to come forward and report the crime to detectives at (716) 286-4553, so charges can be placed against the suspect, who admitted to police that he encountered the woman in the parking l
