NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - Two people have died in what police are calling a murder-suicide in Niagara Falls. The man and woman lived together in a home on 29th Street.
While Niagara Falls Police are saying that neighbors alerted them to Monday night’s tragedy on 29th Street, they’re not saying much more about what led to the deaths of the two people.
Neighbors say their area is a quiet neighborhood. Neighbor Richard Felvus said, “It's peaceful, and I've only been up here for three years, and nothing like this has ever happened in my neighborhood." Felvus says he heard gunshots around 8 p.m. Monday.
Felvus said, “It was like, firecrackers, you know, neighborhood kids, play a lot. This one you know stood out.”
News 4 spoke with people who live nearby, one person said she heard a dog at the scene barking, and she heard loud arguing on other occasions. Police say they found two people inside the house, shot and killed.
Niagara Falls City Police Department Superintendent Bryan Delporto said, “A couple people in the neighborhood did hear gunshots, obviously that came from the residence.”
Superintendent Delporto added, people called 911 when they heard those shots. Some neighbors say they don’t feel safe after what happened.
Felvus said, “I got a year-and-a-half year-old son, and we may end up moving because of this.”
Niagara Falls Police say they are still trying to contact family members before releasing the man and woman’s names.
