Buff. State warns students of robbery

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo State is warning students of an armed robbery overnight in a dorm room. Buffalo State University Police say the victims waited 30 minutes before calling police. They said their investigation is leading them to believe this is not a random crime.

College students are not typically known for having a lot of money. However, just before 4 a.m. Thursday, two students on the 10th floor of Tower 2 at Buffalo State College were robbed at gun point, by three men in black hoodies, pants, gloves and masks.

“The suspects took a cell phone and cash from the victims and then fled the scene,” said a Buffalo State official.

University Police say they didn’t get a call until 4:15 a.m., 30 minutes after the incident took place.

A student who lives in Tower 2 said, “I was a little nervous because I usually come in from the library or the studio at that time and it’s nerve wracking, I got a little pit in my stomach.”

University Police say students can get into a dorm in two ways, someone lets them in or they have a key.

Police are convinced this isn’t random. No injuries were reported and police are reviewing surveillance video to track down the three men. If you have information call University Police at (716) 878-6333.

This is not the first frightening incident on Buffalo State's campus this year. In early September, the college warned students of two attacks. Students were notified that a student was shot and two women were robbed. In October, the weekend rape of a female student had the Buffalo State College campus on edge.
