BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A terrifying attempted kidnapping case is in Erie County Court Wednesday morning. The District Attorney’s Office says 22-year-old Melvin Virgil and 29-year-old Khaled Yaghi tried to abduct a Buffalo woman as she walked to her car on Richfield Avenue last December.
Virgil and Yaghi are accused of displaying a sawed-off shotgun when attempting to abduct the 53-year-old woman. The victim started the panic alarm on her vehicle, according to the DA’s office, and the defendants fled the scene. The suspects were quickly picked up by police.
Virgil and Yaghi are charged with second-degree attempted kidnapping and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. They each face a maximum prison sentence of 30 years. They also face parole revocation proceedings.
