ALFRED, N.Y. (WIVB) - A bank robber was no match for the people who live in the Village of Alfred and their police force.
Authorities say 51-year-old Scott Wade of Wellsville walked into the Community Bank on North Main Street on Friday and robbed it. But as he was walking out, a patron inside the bank followed him, pointing at Wade and shouting, "Bank robber!"
Police say pedestrians on the street took notice and joined in the foot pursuit, following Wade to a parking lot off Main Street on the Alfred University campus. Police say Wade fled at a high rate of speed just as officers were arriving.
Wade traveled down Church Street and police say he struck a parked car at the intersection of Church and Elm Street. Alfred State College Police say they spotted Wade as he neared the village line and gave chase down Waterwells Road. After about a mile, Wade crashed his vehicle and was taken into custody.
Wade was taken to Jones Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. After being treated, he was released, arraigned in the Village of Wellsville Court and taken to the Allegany County Jail on $100,000 bail.
Police say it's possible Wade is connected to a bank robbery on January 4 and additional charges are pending.
