NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - Former Niagara Falls building commissioner Guy Bax pleaded guilty to corruption in federal court on Tuesday.
The 66-year-old admitted that he recommended and promoted John Gross and his company, David Gross Contracting, to anyone seeking a permit or approval from the City of Niagara Falls, suggesting that it would be easier for them to gain their permit or approval if they did so. In exchange for this arrangement, Bax was given free home repairs and maintenance services, as well as an expense paid trip, free golf outings and other benefits.
For his part in the scheme, John Gross was sentenced to 33 months in prison last January after being convicted of mail fraud and filing a false tax return.
Bax will be sentenced in May and faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail, a fine of $250,000, or both.
