BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A frightening crime has left students at Buffalo State College on edge. Bandits brandishing a gun robbed students in a dorm room.
Word spread quickly just before 6 a.m. when Buffalo State University Police sent out a text message to students alerting them to an armed robbery inside the Tower II Residence Hall.
University Police Chief Peter Carey said, "Two victims who live in one of the rooms on the 10th floor reported to the officers that there's a common area suite outside the individual students' rooms and that there was a knock on the door. One of the students went to the door and opened the door and he was pushed back into his room where another student was sleeping."
Victims told police the suspects wore black masks and hoodies, had a handgun and took a cellphone and a small amount of cash. The robbery happened just over two weeks after a rape occurred in the Moore Complex, which is right next to Tower II.
Five times this semester students have been alerted to crime by e-mail and/or text, but only the two incidents were on campus, and both the robbery and rape, happened inside a dorm.
You have to be let into the building or have a key fob. In the case of the robbery, suspects went all the way up to the 10th floor. As for the rape, police have a person of interest, but the victim has decided not to press charges.
