REDWOOD, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Canadian criminal trying to make his way to Florida was caught by U.S. Border Patrol last Friday.

Around 6 p.m., agents spotted a man wearing a snowmobile survival suit and sneakers walking through Kring Point State Park in Redwood, NY. The subject was detained while agents tracked his steps back to the frozen St. Lawrence River, where they determined he had crossed the border on a snowmobile from Mallorytown, Ontario, Canada while trying to get to Florida.

Though his name has not been released, Border Patrol says the subject has criminal convictions in Canada for drug trafficking, production of a controlled substance and laundering the proceeds of a crime.

For trying to illegally cross into the United States, the subject will be tried in federal court and could face two years in prison.
