"Community activist" now in prison

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Self-proclaimed community activist Darnell Jackson has had another run-in with the law, and this time it has put him behind bars.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita says Jackson violated the terms of his domestic violence sentence from December 10th of last year. Jackson was granted a conditional discharge after pleading guilty to second degree harassment in connection with physically harassing a young woman.

The discharge required Jackson to complete mental and substance abuse evaluations, as well as a domestic violence program. But Sedita says Jackson made no attempt to complete these programs and was thereby sentenced to eight days in the Erie County Correctional Facility.

Jackson is no stranger to police. In September 2010, Jackson was charged with aggravated harassment and intimidation. In July 2012, he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child after allegedly pointing a shotgun at a man who was holding a 1-year-old child.

Jackson came into the public sphere during the City Grill shootings, when he led convicted murderer Riccardo McCray to News 4 studios. McCray spoke to News 4 before he surrendered to police. McCray would later be convicted of gunning down eight people in cold blood.

Before McCray was arrested, a reward fund had been established to find the person responsible for the shootings. Jackson would later get angry over not receiving the full reward.

Jackson called News 4 Monday night to say he was no longer in jail. He was released after serving five days because "they knew I shouldn't be there."
