DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) - A copper thief is going to prison for the next two-and-a-half to five years.
Luis Reyes, 33, broke into the vacant Altech Wire Mill on West Lucas Avenue in Dunkirk last July. Reyes stole copper wire in the building, threw it in a barrel inside and set it ablaze, presumably to melt off the insulation. But the barrel caught the room on fire and firefighters were called to extinguish the blaze.
Reyes was found nearby and arrested. On Monday, he was sentenced to two-and-a-half to five years in prison for third degree burglary.
