BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Bullets were flying on Buffalo's east side on Tuesday in broad daylight. Authorities say a 30-year-old man was shot while driving a vehicle near Moselle and McKibben and that the suspects were in another vehicle, blasting away.
Police say the injured man continued to drive. Then, more shots were fired by the suspects near Schuele and Scajaquada.
It sounds like a scene out of a movie , but it's for real. And now some city lawmakers, like Darius Pridgen, are fired up.
"You want to go over in a field and you want to shoot each other up, do it. You want to go in each other's houses and steal from each other, and kill each other, do it. But don't put the lives of innocent citizens and children at risk," Pridgen said.
Police say the victim was shot in the arm, but was able to drive himself to the Erie County Medical Center.
Common Council President Richard Fontana said, "Unfortunately these people think they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, and there's no other people around in the whole world. But there are other people and other people can get hurt."
The two shooting scenes were 10 blocks apart. Luckily, no one else was injured by the brazen acts of violence.
"You just don't know. Wherever they are, they're going to pull out that gun. In the old days you'd get shot for a quarter. Now it's shot for revenge," Fontana said.
Detectives were busy gathering evidence at both locations. Police are hoping for a lead on the suspects. Pridgen says the faster they're caught, the better for everyone.
"That's ignorant. It's uncalled for. And somebody ought to go to jail quickly because they were in broad daylight, people saw license plates and people talk," Pridgen said.
The 30-year-old victim is listed in stable condition at ECMC. Police are still looking for the suspects but need the public's help. Call with your confidential tips at 847-2255.
