BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The suspect police were searching for Thursday morning has died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

Police were on Hempstead Avenue Thursday morning, searching for 28-year-old Demone Frazier, a convicted sex offender who was believed to be armed and dangerous.

Frazier was involved in an incident with a parole officer earlier that morning. He allegedly had a gun in his possession and was accused of stealing a parole officer's vehicle.

Frazier was released to the community in 2009. He was released under Strict and Intensive Supervision and Treatment (SIST) authorized by the Civil Confinement Law, which requires the civil confinement or strict post-release supervision of New York’s most dangerous sex offenders.

Thursday afternoon, police say Frazier shot himself before authorities could take him into custody.
