ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) - An Orleans County man has been charged in a vicious assault, and a woman is accused of aiding in the attack.

Albion Police say 22-year-old Domingo Candelaria went to a home on West State Street around 1:30 in the morning on Friday to start a fight with someone who lives inside. But Candelaria supposed target wasn't home, and police say he instead viciously assaulted the homeowner, a 59-year-old man, leaving him with serious, life-threatening head trauma.

Police say Candelaria fled the scene and was later caught at a home on Beaver Street, where he and 18-year-old Maria Lape were taken into custody. Candelaria is charged with second degree assault and is being held in the Orleans County Jail on $100,000 bail. Police say Lape aided Candelaria, allowing him to commit the assault, and charged her with fourth degree criminal facilitation. She was taken to the jail on $1,000 bail.

The victim was rushed to Erie County Medical Center and is listed in serious condition. His name has not been released.

Police say further charges are pending against Candelaria and Lape.
