TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - City of Tonawanda Police are warning residents about a robbery Sunday evening, involving an alleged deal with a seller on Craigslist. Police say the victim planned to meet the seller, and was jumped. Police believe the ad was a ruse used to lure the victim to the attackers.
According to police, the buyer answered an ad for an iPhone 5 for $400. The seller told the buyer, via text message, to meet him near the Tonawanda Housing Authority. According to police, the buyer arrived and was jumped by two males, while another stood by and watched. Police say the victim’s iPhone 3 was stolen before the attackers fled the scene.
Police are asking residents to be aware of scams, to not meet sellers in secluded areas, to have the seller’s information and to try and have someone with you if possible.
Anyone who witnessed the event is asked to call the City of Tonawanda Police at 692-2121 ext. 308.
