AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Amherst Police say after they pulled over a fleeing driver, he refused to exit the vehicle and smoked crack in front of officers.
Authorities were assisting Cheektowaga Police in finding a stolen vehicle on Sunday around 8:30 p.m. when officers spotted it on Niagara Falls Boulevard. A chase ensued and came to an end when Amherst officers boxed in the car on the ramp to the 290. As officers approached the vehicle, they say 36-year-old John Fenner of Holley lit his crack pipe, smoking drugs in front of them while refusing to unlock the vehicle.
Officers broke in and took Fenner into custody, charging him with unauthorized use of a vehicle, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a controlled substance and numerous vehicle and traffic infractions.
