CLYMER, N.Y. (WIVB) - Deputies spent 10 hours on the scene of a potential hostage situation in Clymer before defusing the situation.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Route 426 Sunday night at 11:00 p.m. on reports a woman was being held inside against her will. When deputies got there, they could not make contact with 26-year-old Megan Cottrell.

After investigating the situation, authorities determined Cottrell was inside the home with 26-year-old Gregory Johnston, who was wanted for parole violations and other warrants. For several hours, deputies continued to try and make contact without success and SWAT and negotiators were called to the scene.

At 7:45 a.m. Monday morning, Cottrell exited. She was arrested and charged with obstructing governmental administration.

An hour and a half later, Johnston left the home voluntarily and surrendered to authorities. He was taken into custody.
