MEDINA, N.Y. (WIVB) - An emergency room doctor will be in court Friday, facing drug charges. Sixty-two-year-old Daniel Gillick was arrested this week, after federal agents staked out his house. They were tipped off that Dr. Gillick was using cocaine.
On Tuesday, agents pulled over Gillick’s 27 year old live-in girlfriend, only to find crack cocaine in her car. Agents then followed her back to Gillick’s house, where the doctor admitted he’s been using for two years.
Since these are federal charges, U.S. Attorney Bill Hochul is prosecuting. He sat down with News 4’s George Richert Thursday, who asked the questions on everyone’s mind, was he using on the job?
Hochul said, “We don’t have that information, George, but I can express that the minute it was brought to my attention that a doctor that no less performed emergency services was a potential user of cocaine that we had to run those allegations to ground.”
Federal agents have taken away Dr. Gillick's license to write prescriptions. It’s up to the State Health Department to decide his future as a practicing doctor.
