MIDDLEBURY, N.Y. (WIVB) - Deputies say a Wyoming County man was drunk when he fell asleep behind the wheel early Thursday morning.
The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office found 53-year-old Lowell Melvin of Middlebury had crashed his car onto Vernal Road from Dale Road around 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Deputies say Melvin fell asleep behind the wheel, drove off the roadway striking a telephone pole, which caused the car to flip onto its roof, blocking the roadway.
Melvin was treated for minor injuries at the scene and placed under arrest for DWI with a BAC .08 percent or higher and moving from lane safely. He was released to a sober party and will appear in court at a later date.
