BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A man in his mid nineties is still in the hospital Tuesday morning, with a broken jaw. Intruders violently invaded his home this weekend. In the included video, you can see surveillance video is showing them breaking inside , all while the victim tries desperately to defend his home.
“This is a 96-year-old man, and he’s in the home alone, “ said an unidentified family member.
Family members say 96-year-old Levi Clayton, a longtime deacon with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Buffalo, was brutally attacked and robbed at his Longview Avenue home in Buffalo.
A camera shows the two intruders outside the home. The family member says the video shows them passing a knife used to cut open the window screen.
A short time later, another man, this time in a black jacket, holding what looks to be a pistol. Then the two enter the home through the window, tearing out a mini blind, all while the elderly victim inside tries in vain to hold off the invaders by throwing a lamp at them.
“It breaks my heart to know that a 96-year-old man is trying to fight two young youths, and he’s throwing the lamp out,” the family member.
Levi Clayton was found late Saturday by family and is in fair condition at ECMC. The family says the 96-year-old man was pistol whipped by the assailants, and his jaw is broken in four to five places.
Meanwhile, Buffalo Police are asking for the public’s help. If you recognize the man or have any other information, you can call or text the confidential tipline at 847-2255.
