NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - A 67-year-old Niagara Falls man was sentenced Thursday for bilking HUD out of $16,000.
George McCray lived in public housing at the Anthony Spallino Towers in Niagara Falls for five years. During that time, he claimed his Social Security benefits were his only source of income, but really, McCray was also receiving Workmen's Compensation benefits. This gave him higher HUD rental assistance benefits, ultimately receiving around $16,000 he was not entitled to.
McCray was convicted last year of theft of public money, and a judge sentence him to one year of probation and to pay restitution to HUD on Thursday.
