Teen charged in assault on 96-year-old

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - One person is in custody in connection with the assault cause of an elderly Buffalo man.

A spokesperson with the Erie County District Attorney's Office says 18-year-old Justice Feggans of Florida Street is under arrest and charged in the case. Levi Clayton, 96, was brutally attacked in November inside his Longview Avenue home.

Common Councilmember Darius Pridgen said, "It's a good thing that someone was arrested. It's a disappointing situation that it is a young person."

Buffalo Police announced the arrest of the Riverside High School senior and basketball standout on Thursday. At least two other persons of interest are still being sought in the attack.

Clayton, a longtime deacon of the Friendship Baptist Church in Buffalo, is still recovering from injuries suffered in the attack.

Feggans has been charged with two counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree robbery. He is being held on $250,000 bail.

Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda stated, "He has a prior arrest record. I'm not aware of any convictions at this point. I believe he was arrested for robbery the month before."

News 4 contacted the Buffalo Police Department, and a spokesperson would say only that detectives are zeroing in on suspects in the case.

"All I can say at this point is that the investigation continues. I don't want to go into details at this point. But we should have some more information in the very near future," Derenda said.
