BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The feds are putting violent gangs in their sights, and raids are pulling suspects off the blood-stained streets.
The long arm of the law sent seven suspected gangsters to jail on Wednesday. U.S. Attorney William Hochul says they all belong to the "Bailey Boys," an east side gang with a violent history.
"Over a 10-month period of time in 2011, members of the Bailey Boys committed no less than eight attempted murders. Two of those attempts actually resulted in the death of their victims," Hochul said.
The 24-count indictment not only accuses Tyrone Brown of being in the gang, but also of shooting and killing Harold McCain, in January of 2011. The indictment also connects Brown to the 2011 shooting death of Kevin Wilkins. Both were in the area the Bailey Boys fought to control.
NFTA Police Chief George Gast said, "We indeed have a portrait of mass murderers operating again on the streets of our city. This kind of conduct will not be tolerated."
Chief Gast also announced the Bailey Boys is connected to a January 2012 shooting. One man fired at an NFTA bus at the corner of Bailey and Kensington. It was all caught on city surveillance cameras.
"This was not a random shooting," said Chief Gast. "The individual on the street was actually targeting a passenger on the bus."
This round up of suspected gangsters is the latest in a city-wide movement against violence. To date, eight other city gangs have been infiltrated by local, state and federal authorities.
If convicted, these seven suspects could face life in federal prison. One could even face the death penalty.
They're each due back in federal court next week to face the judge, all at once.
