BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Firefighters were called to Rother Avenue in Buffalo when a vacant home started on fire.

Officials say the fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. and it took fire crews around 30 minutes to get it under control. The two-and-a-half story vacant home suffered $25,000 damage.

Apparently, a man and his brother had been working on the roof of the home for days so that a family from Bangladesh could move in. The man told News 4 something on the ground caught fire, but with the water shut off to the home, he was unable to stop the flames from spreading.

A shooting happened close to the fire on East Ferry Street, just after 3:30 p.m. Police say one man was hit and died a few hours later. More on that story here.
