AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - A former union leader faces a maximum of five years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to embezzling and stealing union assets.
Joseph Grygorcewicz, 63, of Amherst admitted stealing almost $40,000 from Local 1566, a union that represents railroad workers, while he was Secretary-Treasurer. Grygorcewicz wrote checks to himself and forged the union president's signature.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says the former union leader paid about $14,000 back before his crime was discovered.
