KENDALL, N.Y. (AP) - A man accused of shooting his wife, setting his house on fire and then shooting himself in the face has been arraigned at a hospital two weeks after the attack, sheriff's deputies said Wednesday.
Dennis Buehler, 64, was arraigned Monday evening on attempted murder and assault charges at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he was listed in satisfactory condition Wednesday. Bail was set at $250,000 cash.
Orleans County sheriff's investigators said Buehler shot his 58-year-old wife, Linda, in the shoulder after an argument March 4. Linda Buehler got out of the house and drove to a nearby home for help.
Before police arrived, Dennis Buehler set fire to the home, then walked outside and shot himself in the face, investigators said. The home was a total loss.
Linda Buehler has since been released from the hospital and granted an order of protection.
A preliminary hearing for Dennis Buehler is scheduled for Friday. A sheriff's dispatcher did not know if he has an attorney.
Additional charges are expected when the case is presented to a grand jury, sheriff's officials said.
