BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A jury convicted 39-year-old Angel Maldonado of third-degree grand larceny, for scamming an elderly retired school teacher from Suffolk County.
The Erie County District Attorney’s Office says between January and March of 2010 Maldonado, who was incarcerated at the Cayuga Correctional Facility, conned the woman into mailing $25,000 in money orders to Erie County.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Maldonado scammed the woman into believing he was able to hire an attorney to represent her son on an appeal. He only referred to the attorney as “Magic Mike.”
Maldonado can receive a maximum prison term of three and a half to seven years in jail, when he is sentenced in October.
