BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Deputies say an inmate at the Holding Center used a marriage counseling session with his fiancee to try and smuggle drugs and a weapon into the jail.
Charles Allaway had been serving time for two assault charges out of Buffalo when he met his fiancee, 52-year-old Nadine Lawrence, whom he intended to marry while incarcerated. Marriage counseling is a prerequisite for a wedding in jail, and authorities say the 47-year-old and Lawrence were taking steps to achieve that goal.
During a Thursday morning session, a deputy saw Allaway and Lawrence hug, and during their embrace, authorities say Lawrence gave Allaway a paper wrapped in electrical tape that contained a razor blade, marijuana, a plastic bag, a match and rolling papers.
Allaway is now facing additional charges of possession of dangerous contraband in prison, criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
His fiancee has now joined him at the Holding Center on $5,000 bail. Lawrence is charged with introducing dangerous contraband into prison, criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
