BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - An Erie County Holding Center deputy learned his fate Wednesday afternoon, after pleading guilty to a civil rights violation involving an inmate.
Sergeant Thomas Thompson of Grand Island told the inmate because he had lied, as punishment he was going to get punched in the gut and could pick the deputy who would deliver the blow. After pointing to a deputy, the inmate was punched.
Thompson could have faced a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a $100,000 fine or both. But a federal judge sentenced him to eight months in a halfway house on Wednesday.
