Man admits break ins, sex assaults

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to disturbing charges involving students at Buffalo State College and Canisius College.  The Erie County District Attorney’s Office says 29-year-old Kahlil Peoples has admitted to break ins, some involving sexual assaults.

The District Attorney's Office says Peoples broke into a Buffalo State College student’s residence and sexually assaulted her on November 17th, 2010. The D.A.'s Office says Peoples again broke into a Buffalo State College student’s residence on February 18th, 2012, and sexually assaulted the student. On July 14th, 2012, Peoples broke into the residence of a Canisius College student, according to the D.A.

Days after the break in at the Canisius student’s residence, Peoples was allegedly spotted peeping into a window near the college. After a short foot chase, he was immediately arrested.

Peoples was linked to the string of burglaries and sexual assaults through DNA evidence found on a door knob, window screen, and even on a bottle of Windex he used to try and wash away the evidence.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita says the Central Police Services Forensic Police Laboratory did a tremendous job putting together all the DNA. They used a number of different tests, including brand new technology.

Sedita said, “because of their tireless efforts, a depraved and dangerous degenerate will no longer be able to victimize innocent college students in our community. ”

Canisius student, Alex Simon says, "It's good to know that he's off the streets. That's one less person out there who could be causing trouble out there."

Peoples is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of second-degree burglary. He could face a maximum prison sentence of 37 years, when sentenced in January.

Authorities suspect that People's may have been involved in other crimes. If others believed they were victimized by him, they should call Buffalo Police or the D.A.'s office.
