BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - An employee of a company that was supposed to clean out the asbestos from the former Kensington Towers has pleaded guilty to charges he falsified inspection reports.
Henry Hawkins, 43, of Buffalo was employed by JMD Environmental as an air sampling technician and project monitor. Hawkins admitted in federal court that he gave the vacant building a pass, even though he was well aware that not all of the asbestos had been removed by the company.
Hawkins pleaded guilty to four counts of being an accessory after the fact to a false statement under the Clean Air Act. Eight others are awaiting trial on similar or more severe charges.
When Hawkins is sentenced in June, he could face a maximum of four years in prison.
